Google Earth
We are currently generating two types of Google Earth visualizations from TES datasets. The Level 2 (L2) vertical profiles provide a birds-eye view of annual groupings of TES Special Observations. Additionally, there are Google Earth visualizations for each of the TES Level 3 (L3) globally gridded output products.

Search TES Special Observations Using Google Earth
You can search for TES Special Observation data using Google Earth if you already have the FREE Google Earth Viewer installed on your PC.
• 2009 Special Observations
• 2008 Special Observations
• 2007 Special Observations
• 2006 Special Observations
• 2005 Special Observations
• 2004 Special Observations
If you are looking for data from a particular year, click on the link above corresponding to that year. If you want to search through more than one year's worth of data open as many years as you like. This will launch the Google Earth Viewer and display placemarks for Special Observation runs depicted by the AURA satellite suspended above the initial target scene for a given run. In this fashion, you can spin the globe to find data by geospatial location, or lookup the same data by run/date using the "Places" menu on the left-hand side of the screen. Click the image of the satellite to display run-specific information, including a direct link to the ASDC Data Pool for that run/date/species combination. You may also link directly to the Google Earth L2 Vertical Profile visualizations.
Tips:
- Turn off the view of the atmosphere for over-the-horizon viewing (View --> Atmosphere )
- Keep the Google Earth browser docked (Tools --> Options --> General --> Show web results in external browser )
- Click "no" when asked to save data upon exiting.
- Adjust time slider settings by clicking on the icon of the clock next to the time slider bar at the top of the window:
- Time --> Keep selection at beginning of time range
- Time --> Restrict time to currently selected folder
- Click "OK", then drag the end-of-time slider control to the far right of the range.
Esperanza Wildfire
A special Google Earth L2 vertical profile was generated for the Esperanza Wildfire that devastated Oceanside, CA on October 26, 2006. Select the link below.
Fires in Northern California
Special Google Earth L2 carbon monoxide vertical profiles were also generated for fires burning during late June/early July 2008 across Northern California, which had a big impact air quality over a large region. Download the kmz files from the links below.
Level 3 Visualization Plots
Query capability for TES Level 3 standard products
TES Level 3 standard data products are composed of L3 HDF-EOS grid data. L3 standard browse products are Level 3 HDF-EOS files containing global maps with associated L2 geo-location "dot" plots.
Below each Level 3 image is a link to access the same data in Google Earth format. The global plot includes metadata showing the (averaged) measurements for a given grid sector and overlays the original L3 image for reference.
